Dan brings more than 20 years of experience to NextStage Capital. He has been involved as an operator, launching and managing technology products and services, and as an investor, evaluating and investing in early stage technology companies.

Prior to co-founding NextStage Capital / NextStage Advisors, Dan was a Vice-President and Officer of Safeguard Scientifics (NYSE: SFE), a publicly traded venture capital firm. During his two years at Safeguard, he led approximately $75 million of early stage venture investments, evaluated hundreds of businesses, and personally sourced, structured and negotiated numerous transactions. While at Safeguard, Dan served as an active board member for many companies, successfully recruited CEOs and CFOs, and led several business development efforts on behalf of portfolio companies. Dan was also a member of Safeguard's investment committee.

Examples of Dan's venture investments while at Safeguard include: Atlas Commerce (Sold to Verticalnet - NAS: VERT), AgWeb (Sold to Farm Journal), BuyStream and while at IBM, SystemCorp (acquired by IBM).

Prior to Safeguard, Dan was an executive with IBM for over 10 years, where he held several marketing positions and had profit & loss responsibility for one of IBM's Internet businesses in the Financial Services industry. During part of his IBM career, Dan was in IBM's Mergers & Acquisitions group. There he was responsible for one of IBM's only minority investments made during the 1990s. That investment in a software company returned greater than 30% IRR to IBM before being acquired by IBM in late 2004. During his tenure with IBM, Dan developed an alliance that ultimately became one of IBM's top 20 Global Alliance Partners, was integral in launching IBM's largest Internet initiative in the Financial Services industry, and was responsible for launching a new software product that produced tens of millions of dollars in incremental revenue.

Dan is on the board of directors and on the marketing committee of the Mid-Atlantic Capital Alliance (Greater Philadelphia Venture Group), chairman of the board of RCD Technology, the board of directors of Sapphire Mobile and Magnify Networks and a board observer of HX Technologies.

Dan graduated magna cum laude from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Accounting and began his career as a CPA with KPMG. During his 3 years at KPMG, Dan was involved in both the audit and tax groups.
